Pharoahe Monch - Push
From the upcoming, and much anticipated, Desire, comes Monch’s first single Push. Previously the Queens MC has said this about the album:
“Oh my god, it’s crazy. It’s gonna breathe a breath of fresh air into hip-hop. My mission is for people to be like, ‘OK, he’s not afraid. You can tell, he’s having fun.’ I love an album where you can tell, like ‘This n—– had a ball in the studio.’ [The music is] hardcore. It ain’t thug hardcore, but it’s old school hardcore, in the sense of a n—– rhyming over some hot ass, hard sh–.”
Directed by Paul Minor [that Deep Dish song Flashdance and Funeral For A Friend videos], Push is set in New York City circa 1977, during that summer’s massive power outage. The clip takes you through the turbulent time when the city was recovering from near bankruptcy and a massive police corruption scandal.
