Nas Set To Sell 200,000 In First Week
“He’s got a lot of attention right now, a lot of people are talking about him. A lot of people are talking about what he said about ‘hip-hop is dead,’ people, especially from the south are taking offense to that.”
Def Jam are setting themselves for another strong week, furthering the label’s good fortune in the final quarter of 2006.
Nas’ Hip Hop Is Dead has been available for only one day, but experts are tipping the album will sell around 200,000 units in the first week.
Billboard’s R&B charts manager Raphael George said, “I’m gonna say 200 first week. He’s got a lot of attention right now, a lot of people are talking about him. A lot of people are talking about what he said about ‘hip-hop is dead,’ people, especially from the south are taking offense to that.
“I think right now he’s got a lot going in his corner,” George added. “Even though radio right now might not say that, but Nas, his stuff doesn’t really hit radio like that.”
Jay-Z is pushing platinum, and Jeezy debuted at number one this week. 200,000 might be enough to put Nas at number one for the week, but with Christmas buying you never know what’s going to sell at the last minute. Def Jam’s on a roll though, that’s for sure.
