It’s Official: Jay-Z To Move The Nets To Brooklyn

Jay-Z already owned the team, now he’s just cutting back his travel time to & from the games.

It was on the cards from the moment Jay signed the papers as a co-purchaser of the Nets, but now the move has been approved. The New Jersey Nets will be the Brooklyn Nets in time for the 2009-2010 season.

was part of a team including real estate developer Bruce Ratner and other partners who acquired the Nets for $300 Million in 2004.

New York’s Public Authorities Control Board voted yesterday to authorise the ‘Atlantic Yards development’, which will reuse a large area near the downtown Brooklyn rail yard. The area will be replaced with the stadium, thousands of apartments and office towers.

“I look forward to seeing [developer] Bruce Ratner and [architect] Frank Gehry’s grand vision turned into reality and to eating a hot dog as I watch the Brooklyn Nets play in Brooklyn’s new arena in the 2009-2010 season,” Governor Pataki told the Daily News.

  1. How is Jay-Z shortening his commute, when Jay-Z lives in Jersey and has lived here since the start of his career? Dude hasn’t lived in Brooklyn in 10 years and he went to high school in Trenton.
