Twista posted the following comments in his blog on September 13th, “If Congress is worried about rap music it’s time for them to go the ghettos in this country and fix the problems so that the kids don’t have to see the things that they see and live through all of them.”

Since beginning his column with The Redeye, a publication of the Chicago Tribune, Twista has come to Hip Hop’s defense when critics attack its subject matter and content. Twista did it once again, this time in response to “Imus To Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degradation,” a Congress led hearing analyzing misogyny in Hip Hop…

Twista posted the following comments in his blog on September 13th, “If Congress is worried about rap music it’s time for them to go the ghettos in this country and fix the problems so that the kids don’t have to see the things that they see and live through all of them.”

He went on to question why politicians chose to focus on Hip Hop music while our country is currently engaged in war, facing rising gas prices, and other problems.

“We’ve got troops still dying in Iraq, global warming, gas prices going way high and Congress is worried about hip-hop? There are more examples of our own President saying stupider things than you could ever hear in any rap song. Maybe it’s time he took a little trip to Congress and was asked a few questions as well then.”

Twista has come under fire multiple times year. He spoke out against a billboard campaign undertaken by a Chicago area church in which the church posted billboard featuring Twista and other Hip Hop artists with the message, “Stop Listening To Trash.” Shortly after, Twista was dropped by McDonald’s from their summer tour and replaced by Sean Kingston.

Twista believes that the messages are being misinterpreted. “I’ve been through this before but I’m going to say it again here now, when we use certain words in our music it’s because the fans that our music is for understand what we mean when we’re using those words…So when there’s a track about pimpin’ it doesn’t mean that the rapper is saying pimpin’ is right but just that it exists out there and so he’s telling a story about it. Rap isn’t the only form of entertainment taking on certain subjects but it’s taking the heat for it all.”

Twista’s new album, Adrenaline Rush 2007 hits stores today, September 18th.
